Just a note........

Well everyone it has been a couple of busy weeks for me and my blogging has suffered a bit I am afraid. I do apologize for that and in coming weeks I am at most going to post twice a week and if not once. With the holidays coming and the very busy schedule we have right now I just cant find enough time or a set schedule yet not sure which it is. I have taken on an outside job as a school bus driver for our school district here and getting used to that schedule. So when all that is lined up and I can have myself a scheldule of sorts then I will try to get back to posting one a regular daily basis. Hope you all understand, but you have to do what you have to do for your family right!!!! I want to wish you all a safe and Happy Green Thanksgiving.

What Your Jeans Are Used For.......

There is a new revolutionary way people are insulating their homes now. It is with recycled jeans, there is a company that takes jeans that aren't sold or are donated to them to make insulation for your attic with them. It is a cool thing too I would love to be able to do this in our home but the cost is a lil outta my reach right now maybe in future. They blow it in like others do but it is in between the rafters behind a mesh screen. The cool thing is that this insulation has been treated so that it is water proof and flame retardant. The methods for making them this was are kept highly guarded "Bill Nye The Science Guy" says but when flame is held to it while holding it bare handed you do not feel the heat according to Bill and Ed Beagly Jr.. Bill did an experiment with dry ice on top of an aquarium, three ways on side no insulation, 2nd with standard R30 I believe, and the jean insulation. He put 3 beakers under (inside the aquarium) each piece with a thermometer in each under the no insulation the thermometor temp raises about 10 to 15 degrees, under R30 the temp raises between 5 and 10, under the jean insulation the temp only rose 1/2 a degree to 1 degree. Seeing this was quite interesting to say the least. It really makes you sit back and think about the amount of heat lost through our attics. Its one of those things that make you go HMMMMMMM!

Post Election Day

Well we made it through another election and with that in my state there was a win for renewable energy. We voted on making electric company's buy from renewable energy sources for power. We have wind farms here and some people are even going solar. This proposition makes power company's buy from those company's we have a company that does already here in the state but other company's do not and now they must. I think that is a great thing in itself. HOOORAY!! for renewable energy. To all those company's that buy and sell renewable energy to your customers KUDOS to you all.

Birthday Wishes

On a side note I would like to wish Regan (my niece) and Heather S. aka Aunt Harvey (my kids adopted Aunt) a very Happy Birthday.

Pop Bottles

I know almost all of us get 2lt. bottles all the time or from time to time. Well we have them all over and have a couple of people from our church that save them for us. What do I use them for well....... ICE. Yes I said ice, we take all our 2 liter bottles fill them with warm water and put them in our deep freeze to be used for drinking ice. How we came about doing this is we moved from a house we had a ice maker to a house that didn't. We never had enough room in the freezer on fridge for ice trays (let alone keeping them filled on a regular basis) so we would fill a 2 liter every time we used 1 and put it back in the fridge freezer.

Then when my parents got rid of their deep freeze we jumped at the chance to get it. More room for more bottles was great, they can also be used to keep coolers cool for groceries, and for picnics. My husband even has a couple that are just for the cooler on the boat to keep things cool on the lake. We cut the bottles open beat the ice up (through the plastic of course) and wha la we have ice for our ice bin in the freezer. So instead of throwing those empty bottles out make a few good uses for them before you recycle them. Other things they can be used for are bird, squirrel feeders. If you like hummingbirds you can buy a top that screws on as a lid and you can fill the bottle with the nectar (dont use the dyed nectar it harms the birds).

You can make a none dyed nectar at home for pennies and they love it. Will try to find the link and add it to this post for those of you who want it. They also like red it attracks them. You can make it a family affair and decorate the bottles 1 for each family member to have their own special hummingbird feeder. Make them and give them as gifts. Very frugal and nice ways to recycle your bottles.

Today Is Going To Be "Did You Know Monday"

That more children under the age of 4 die of accidental poisonings at home than are accidentally killed with guns at home??? This is a scary, but very true fact. The average home today contains more chemicals than were found in a typical chemistry lab. The biggest fact is that cleaning products are some of the most dangerous substances in the home. If you look under your bathroom and kitchen sinks you are most likely to find window cleaner, bleach, dishwashing detergent, shampoo, or mouthwash. These products can be violent, lethal poisons that can kill or seriously injure your child or any child that may be in your home. There are products out there that are safe for you, your kids, and pets; they clean better than some of the leading brands with no residues, or poisons. If you would like more information about these products please click the link in this post, fill out Learn More Now box. Have a wonderful day!
